Cleveland Kitchen in Lakewood Ranch, Florida is the dream-turned-reality restaurant owned by Steve and Cindy Novak. Their love for food and cooking began 20 years ago.
"When we were dating, Steve dropped off the Best Chicken Paprikas at my back door on his way to work. She told him it was "Better than a dozen roses . . .and I LOVE roses," shares Cindy.
After moving to Lakewood Ranch 3 years ago, they noticed that something was missing from the incredible culinary scene in South West Florida. Steve and Cindy decided to bring their incredible passion for food, and long standing restauranteur/business skills and experience together to create this eclectic, modern restaurant. At Cleveland Kitchen, they used the Novak’s classic ethnic family recipes and combined it with their love for Cleveland's Sports/Arts/ and Rock & Roll culture.
"Growing up in an incredible “foodie town” and being exposed to one of the Midwest’s best indoor/outdoor culinary markets @ the Westside Market, I learned how to love and crave Great Comfort Food," says Steve.
He has lent his considerable culinary talents to the industry for more than 30 years at landmark Cleveland restaurants such as McGarvey’s in Vermilion and Mr. Z’s in Cleveland. He also served as the Grand Opening Manager of The Club Lounge at Progressive Field, (then Jacobs Field), Home of the Cleveland Indians.
Later, both Steve and Cindy were recruited to manage and market another landmark restaurant, Bearden’s of Rocky River. For 10 years, they ran On The Way Café, a specialty catering and carry-out restaurant that served some of their most classic family recipes. The Novak’s family also received the “Golden Ladle Award” in Lakewood, Ohio for serving over 5,000 community meals to those who are in need.
